Prats-de-Mollo-la-Preste is a small mountain town in the eastern Pyrenees, not far from the border with Spain. Located in a narrow valley along the Tech River, the town is surrounded by forested hills and is known for its historic fortifications and traditional Catalan character.
During our journey through the region with our motorhome, we stopped here for a simple overnight stay. We parked under the bridge near the river, which provided a quiet place to stop for the night while passing through the area. The location was practical and gave us a view of the town and the surrounding mountains.
Prats-de-Mollo-la-Preste has a long history connected to its position near the French-Spanish border. The town was fortified centuries ago to protect this strategic mountain route. Above the village stands Fort Lagarde, a large fortress built in the 17th century during the reign of Louis XIV. The fort sits on a hill overlooking the town and can be seen clearly from many points in the valley.
Although we did not walk into the old town during our stop, we could see the fortress from where we parked. Its position above the valley shows how important this location once was for defending the border.
Our overnight stop in Prats-de-Mollo-la-Preste was mainly a convenient break while crossing the Pyrenees. Even without exploring the village itself, the surrounding mountains, river valley, and view of the historic fortress made it an interesting place to spend the night during a motorhome trip through this part of southern France.
