Igualada is a town in the province of Barcelona, located in central Catalonia. The town is known for its historic center, traditional industries, and for hosting one of the well-known celebrations of the Día de los Reyes Magos. We arrived in Igualada on January 5 to see the Three Kings celebration. The town organizes a large evening parade, known as the Cabalgata de Reyes, where the Three Kings travel through the streets on decorated floats while crowds gather to watch and collect candy thrown during the parade. Igualada does have a motorhome stopover area, but during our visit it felt quite far from the city center. Because we wanted to attend the celebration in town, we decided instead to park along the main road closer to the center. This made it much easier to reach the parade and walk to the main viewing areas. During the evening it also started snowing, which made the atmosphere of the celebration quite unusual. Snow is not very common during this event in many parts of Spain, and seeing the parade with snow falling added a different feeling to the evening. The streets were busy with families and visitors waiting for the arrival of the Three Kings — Melchior, Gaspar, and Balthazar — who traditionally bring gifts to children during the night before January 6.
Our stop in Igualada was mainly to experience this celebration. Even though the official motorhome area was quite far from the center, parking closer to town allowed us to enjoy the event easily. Watching the Three Kings parade while snow was falling made it a memorable moment during our winter motorhome journey through Spain.
