We stopped at this parking area near Arén during the day. It is very close to a busy road, so traffic noise is noticeable, but otherwise it was perfectly fine for a short break. Although the location is somewhat isolated, we felt reasonably safe and nobody bothered us.
Only two spaces were specifically reserved for motorhomes. We arrived at around 8 am and easily found one suitable for our vehicle. Parking was completely free, and the only facility available was rubbish bins. There was no water supply, electricity or service point for emptying waste tanks.
The main disadvantage is the noise from passing traffic, which makes this a better option for a daytime stop than for anyone looking for a particularly quiet place to rest. The parking area is basic, but its free access and easy availability early in the morning were useful during our journey.
The surrounding area belongs to the municipality of Arén, in the Ribagorza region of Aragón, near the border with Catalonia. The village itself has a historic centre with narrow streets and traditional stone buildings. Above the village stand the remains of Arén Castle, a medieval fortification first documented in 823. Excavations have revealed the original layout of the castle and several tombs cut into the rock.
Arén is also known for its dinosaur discoveries. The local Dinosaur Museum, located in the former town hall in the village centre, displays fossils and other evidence of prehistoric life in the area. Dinosaur bones and fossilised footprints dating back approximately 65 million years have been found around the municipality. These discoveries make Arén an interesting destination for anyone interested in palaeontology.
For us, the parking area was simply a convenient place for a short daytime stop. It was free, we found a space without difficulty, and we felt safe. However, the road noise and lack of motorhome services are important limitations to consider before choosing it.
