During our visit to Santander, we stopped at Pizza Rosso Vero, a small Italian pizzeria on Paseo de Pereda, along the city’s waterfront. The location is particularly convenient for anyone exploring the centre, as it faces the bay and is close to Jardines de Pereda and the city’s newer cultural attractions. It is a good place to stop for something to eat while walking along the seafront, rather than sitting down for a long restaurant meal.

Rosso Vero specialises in pizza al taglio, the Italian style of pizza sold by the slice. The pizzas are prepared in rectangular trays and cut into portions, with different toppings available depending on the selection being served. We found the pizza very good, particularly the white pizza with sausage, potatoes and white truffle. It was a tasty combination, and a welcome change from the more usual tomato-based pizzas. The ingredients worked well together, making this our favourite choice during the visit.

The business focuses on handmade Italian pizza and pays attention to its ingredients. Its own website explains that it uses organic flour from Molino de Cerecinos in Zamora and organic tomatoes from Navarre, while also trying to source ingredients locally where possible. The original dough recipe is associated with the owner’s grandmother from Abruzzo, giving the business a connection with the Italian tradition behind its food.

One practical detail is that Rosso Vero is primarily a takeaway establishment. Rather than expecting a conventional restaurant with a large dining room, it makes more sense to buy a few slices and enjoy them while exploring the waterfront. The nearby Jardines de Pereda provide a green space beside the bay, and the surrounding promenade is suitable for a walk before or after eating.

The location is also convenient for visiting Santander’s cultural attractions. The Centro Botín stands beside the gardens, while the historic headquarters of Banco Santander has recently been transformed into Faro Santander, a new museum and cultural space inaugurated in September 2026. These attractions give the waterfront an interesting mix of historic architecture, contemporary cultural buildings and open views across the bay.

For us, Rosso Vero was a worthwhile stop because the pizza was good and the location was convenient. The pizza with sausage, potatoes and white truffle was particularly enjoyable, and the rectangular slices made it easy to have a quick meal during a day exploring Santander. It is a useful option for anyone who wants Italian-style pizza without making a full restaurant visit part of the day’s plans.
