We stopped at La Guingueta d’Àneu for a short rest during the day. The parking area is relatively small and the spaces are a little narrow, but we easily found a place for our 23-foot-long motorhome early in the morning. It was an excellent place to take a break: very peaceful, completely quiet and situated just above the river. We felt completely safe throughout our stay, and the area was very clean.

There were picnic tables nearby and several walking trails in the surrounding area, making it a good place to stop for lunch or spend some time outdoors. Parking is free, but there is an important restriction: parking is prohibited between 8 pm and 8 am. This is therefore a daytime parking area, not a place to stay overnight. Although the spaces are somewhat limited, we had no difficulty finding a suitable spot.

La Guingueta d’Àneu is located in Pallars Sobirà, in the Catalan Pyrenees, at approximately 925 metres above sea level. The village stretches along the head of the Embassament de la Torrassa, a reservoir on the Noguera Pallaresa river. The surrounding landscape consists of mountains, water and woodland, with opportunities for walking, fishing and other outdoor activities.

The municipality includes 14 small villages, many of which retain traditional Pyrenean architecture, with stone buildings, slate roofs and Romanesque churches. One of the notable historic sites in the wider area is Santa Maria d’Àneu, an old church near Escalarre whose origins date back to the 11th century. Its original mural paintings are now preserved in the National Art Museum of Catalonia in Barcelona.

Nature is one of the main reasons to visit this area. The nearby Mollera d’Escalarre wetland forms part of the Alt Pirineu Natural Park and provides habitat for wildlife, including migratory birds. Walking routes connect the villages of the Àneu valleys, while the Noguera Pallaresa is well known throughout the region for fishing and water sports.

For us, this was a very good place for a quiet daytime break. It was clean, free, peaceful and suitable for our motorhome despite the relatively narrow spaces. The only point to remember is the overnight parking restriction, which means you need to leave before 8 pm.
