We stopped at this parking area during the day and found it a good place to take a break. The car park is spacious, and we easily found a shaded space for our 23-foot-long motorhome at around 10 am. It was quiet and not particularly busy, despite being close to the road. We also enjoyed the view over the surrounding valley.

There are several walking trails in the area, including some easier routes suitable for a short walk. The parking area is completely free, but there are no motorhome services or rubbish bins. When we visited, it was clean and peaceful, with plenty of room for other vehicles as well.

The parking area is near the southern entrance to the Vielha Tunnel, on the N-230 road. It lies in the mountains between Alta Ribagorça and the Val d’Aran, making it a useful stop when travelling through this part of the Pyrenees.

Nearby is the historic Espitau de Vielha, also known as the Hospital de Sant Nicolau. It was established in the Middle Ages to provide assistance and accommodation for travellers and pilgrims crossing the mountains. Before the tunnel made road travel easier, crossing the mountain pass was a much more demanding journey. The old hospital later lost its original function and became a mountain refuge. The nearby chapel of Santa Quitèria is another part of this historic site.

The area is now mainly used by people travelling through the Pyrenees and by walkers exploring the surrounding mountains. There are shorter walks nearby as well as longer mountain routes, including the trail crossing the Port de Vielha. The longer routes require more time and preparation, but the parking area is convenient even for those who simply want to stop and enjoy the surroundings.

Overall, we found it a practical daytime stop: free, spacious, shaded in places and quiet. The main limitation is the lack of services and rubbish bins, so it is worth planning accordingly.
