The West Lofoten region, located in Norway, is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty and dramatic landscapes. This area is characterized by jagged mountain peaks rising directly from the sea, creating a stunning and unique panorama. While the journey to get there can be long, the views are absolutely worth it. We truly enjoyed the panoramic vistas, which were a constant source of wonder. The combination of the deep blue sea, the towering mountains, and the quaint fishing villages makes the West Lofoten a truly unforgettable destination. The only thing we didn’t like was the weather, which was very rainy and cold (9 degrees Celsius), even in August.

Despite being one of Norway’s most popular tourist destinations, we still loved our experience. The high number of visitors didn’t detract from the area’s unique beauty. We especially appreciated the dramatic peaks, serene fjords, and the iconic red fishermen’s cabins that dot the coastline, adding to the charm of the place. Here is what we especially liked about the West Lofoten:

The Pocket Paradise called Å

We absolutely loved our stay at the fishing village at the end of the E10! It was such a peaceful and picturesque place. The views were breathtaking, and we really enjoyed the tranquility. A definite highlight was the museum’s bakery those cinnamon rolls were incredible! They were the perfect treat after a day of exploring. We’d highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a charming, quiet getaway.

The cold summer

We also truly recommend the white sand beaches of the Lofoten Islands. The scenery is absolutely stunning, and Hauklandstranda beach and Skagsanden beach were our favorites.

The busy Reine

Reine is a beautiful  and pictoresque village, but it’s important to be aware that it can get very busy, especially in the summer. There aren’t many dedicated pedestrian paths, so you’ll often find yourself walking along the main road (E10), which can be quite crowded with cars and campers.

E10

Driving the E10 road in Norway with our motorhome was a fantastic experience. The journey was filled with stunning panoramas at every turn, making the drive itself a major part of the trip’s enjoyment. It’s a very scenic route, but it’s good to know that the road can be quite narrow and gets busy at times. Despite that, it was a truly memorable and beautiful drive.

Nusfjord

We truly enjoyed our visit to Nusfjord, a town that shares a similar charm with Å. It was a memorable experience walking through the well-preserved fishing village. One thing to note for future visitors is that there is a charge to enter the town.
