We visited Lofoten in August with our motorhome and stayed there for 4 days, the landscape and the villages were always magnificent even if the weather was cold and gloomy/rainy.
Nusfjord
Nusfjord is one of the oldest and best-preserved fishing villages in Norway. Located on the island of Flakstadøya, it’s a living museum with its original wharf, fish oil factory, and iconic red fishermen’s cabins. The village is still a working harbor and provides a glimpse into the traditional way of life in the archipelago. It’s also a designated UNESCO World Heritage site due to its cultural significance.
Å
Å is a tiny, picturesque fishing village at the very end of the main road on the Lofoten Islands. It’s one of the best-preserved traditional fishing villages in Norway, with many of its classic red cabins and fish racks still in use. The village is known for its two museums: the Norwegian Fishing Village Museum and the Lofoten Stockfish Museum, which both tell the story of the area’s long history with the cod fishing industry.
Magic Ice Lofoten
Magic Ice Lofoten is a permanent ice gallery located in Svolvær.
Lofotr Viking Museum
The Lofotr Viking Museum in Borg, is a living history museum built around the archaeological discovery of the largest Viking longhouse ever found. Visitors can explore a full-scale reconstruction of the 272-foot-long chieftain’s house, see unique artifacts, and experience Viking life through activities like sailing a longship replica, axe throwing, and archery.
The trip
We recommend this road trip for campers. Start in Svolvær and after visiting Magic Ice Lofoten, drive towards Reine. Along the way, stop at the Lofotr Viking Museum and the beautiful Hauklandstranda beach. From Reine, continue to Å to taste the pastries at The bakery at Å. On your way back, make one last stop at the fishing village of Nusfjord.

We had a fantastic stay with our camper at the parking lot of Å Feskarbrygga Rorbue in Å. It was a wonderful experience to sleep right in the heart of the village

We had a very pleasant stay at the Parking Reinebringen in Reine. It was great to be able to discharge wastewater and refill with fresh water for free. We really enjoyed the fantastic view from the parking lot and loved its location close to the cruise harbor.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Svolvær Ferry Service parking lot in Svolvær. It was great that it was free, and we really enjoyed the views from the parking lot and its convenient location right by the harbor.

We had a very pleasant stay in our camper at the main parking lot on Skata island in Henningsvær. We really enjoyed the view from the parking lot and its great location next to the cod processing plant.

The bakery at Å
We had a great “frokost” at Bakeriet i Å. It’s an old bakery, built in 1844, and part of the Norwegian Fishing Village Museum. They make traditional baked goods like “kanelboller” (cinnamon buns) in a wood-fired oven.
Hansines Bakeri
We had a very nice breakfast at Hansines Bakeri. This bakery is known for its fresh cinnamon buns, sourdough bread, and pastries.
Maritime Munchies
We really enjoyed the fish and chips at Maritime Munchies. It was only a little spicy, which was a bit of a disappointment.
